December 2007

Grand Knight’s Message – Brother Knights, Joy to the world, our savior is born. Merry Christmas to all. Just a few announcements before we get entirely involved in the holiday season. Saturday, January 12th from 12 noon to 3:00 p.m. is our annual council Free Throw Contest. There should be at least 8 to 10 volunteers. This is always a fun event, if you can spare some time that day please try and help. Tuesday, January 22nd there is a bus trip to Washington, D.C. for the Right to Life March. I’m looking forward to the trip since I’ve never been in a crowd that huge. I’m sure it will be an unforgettable experience. February 6th is Ash Wednesday. ALREADY!!!! Not much time to prepare for our Lenten Fish Feast. We haven’t discussed this yet, my fault, time is going by so fast as of late. We need to do some serious planning for this, as we will be doing all the work ourselves. A lot of time and work went into our suppers last year. The time spent together, helping each other was well worth the hours spent in catering to our Church community. I wish you all a very peaceful and happy Christmas. ---- G. K. John Kelly

Fraternal Report – Kindly remember in your prayers those Brother Knights and their family members who are ill and/or recuperating at home or in the hospital especially Judy Tanzosh, wife of PGK Bill Tanzosh. Also, please continue to remember and pray for the souls of the deceased members and their families. Remember that one of the most important ways Knights support each other is through prayer, especially at times of illness or death. Anyone knowing of a member of this council or a council member’s family who is sick or in need of assistance should contact any council officer.

Membership – Anyone knowing of a prospective new member should contact Membership Chairman PGK Bill Tanzosh at 610-759-3161.

Degrees – Congratulations to Brother Knights Anthony Sabia, Jr. and Ronald Tasillo who received the honor of the second degree in an exemplification ceremony held in Easton on November 13th.

Rose and Rosary Presentations – Monthly presentations of a rose, Rosary and Rosary ring to the mothers of infants being baptized are held at both Holy Family and Sacred Heart, Bath. Volunteers are always welcome to conduct or assist in conducting the presentations. To volunteer at Holy Family call Terry Dunne at 610-746-2676.

Basketball Free Throw Competition – The annual K of C Free Throw Competition will be held on Saturday, January 12th from noon until 3p.m. at the Holy Family gym. The competition is open to all boys and girls ages 10-14. Further details can be obtained by calling coordinator Greg Schlegl at 610-759-3189.

Shining Armor Award – All new Brother Knights may qualify for the order’s Shining Armor Award. You qualify if, during your first year as a Knight, you are involved in at least 3 council service programs, attend at least 3 business meetings, receive the second and third degrees, meet with the insurance representative and recruit one new member.

C.O.A.L. Tickets – Drawings were held on December 8th. Hope some of you were winners. If so, let us know.

Keep Christ in Christmas – Council is again selling the “Keep Christ in Christmas” magnets. Every Knight should support this promotion to keep Christ in Christmas. We see the commercial attempts to eliminate the reference to Christ during this season of His birth. Displaying this magnet on your car or in your home will serve as a visual reminder to all that “Christ is the reason for the season.” Magnets will be sold at all Masses or you can contact Former District Deputy Joe Inhoff at 610-759-3184.

Entertainment Books – Our Council’s annual fundraiser sale of Entertainment books is still being conducted. Books are $20 and can be obtained by calling Grand Knight John Kelly at 610-217-2778. They make great last minute Christmas gifts especially for the hard to shop for person.

First Degree Team – Anyone interested in participating as a mock candidate or as an alternate member of the team is invited to attend any of the practices that are held on the third Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Wortman Center.

Annual Christmas Party – The Council’s annual Christmas party was held on Wednesday, December 5th in the parish social hall. We had our best turnout yet; more than 70 people attended. A great time was had by all. Good food, good fellowship and a visit from Santa for the children (it was nice to see so many youngsters). Dapper Dan also attended and entertained us. The annual council awards for Knight of the Year and Family of the Year were presented.

Knight of the Year – Council’s annual Knight of the Year award was given to PGK William Tanzosh. Congratulations Bill.

Family of the Year – Council’s annual Family of the Year award was presented to Brother Knight Vito Spinozzi and his wife Genny. Congratulations to you both. (See photos on council web-site)

Attendance Drawing – No attendance drawing was held in December due to the Christmas party. If you attend the January 2nd 2008 meeting you will have a chance to win the next attendance prize.

Dues are due - Annual dues notices have been mailed to all members. To save on mailing reminders, please pay your dues promptly. Also, including a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your payment will save the Council the cost of postage when sending back your new traveling card.

Knights of Columbus Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM in Holy Family Parish’s Wortman Center. All members are encouraged to attend. After each meeting there is an opportunity for excellent refreshments and fellowship with your brother Knights. Plan to stop in and check it out next month. Also remember that, if conditions are such that you are unable to attend meetings, you can still aid the council by volunteering to participate in any of the various activities which the council conducts. We need you!
