November 2007

Grand Knight’s Message – Brother Knights, I hope everyone had an enjoyable and peaceful Thanksgiving. Don’t forget the annual Christmas party instead of our regular business meeting. We will be starting at 6:30 instead of 7:30 and meeting in the old church basement. Don’t forget the gift exchange for adults – if you want to participate in the gift exchange, bring a gift to add to the pile. If both Knight and wife/guest want to participate bring two presents. Keep the dollar amount to a maximum of $10 per present. Also, bring a gift with your child’s name on it if you want them to receive a gift from Santa. Hope to see you all there. Remember to Keep Christ in Christmas and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. God Bless! - G. K. John Kelly

Fraternal Report – Kindly remember in your prayers those Brother Knights and their family members who are ill and/or recuperating at home or in the hospital especially Judy Tanzosh, wife of PGK Bill Tanzosh. Also, please continue to remember and pray for the souls of the deceased members and their families especially Brother Knight Stephen J. Marositz. Remember, one of the most important ways Knights support each other is through prayer, especially at times of illness or death. Anyone knowing of a member of this council or a council member’s family who is sick or in need of assistance should contact any council officer.

Membership – Anyone knowing of a prospective new member should contact Membership Chairman PGK Bill Tanzosh at 610-759-3161.

Degrees – Congratulations to Brother Knights Floyd Caiazzo, Thomas Crimi and Ronald Tasillo who received the honor of the first degree at an exemplification ceremony held at St. Jane’s in Easton on October 24th and to Brother Knights Joseph Kovacs and Craig Snyder who received the honor of the first degree at an exemplification ceremony held at Nazareth on November 21st.

Rose and Rosary Presentations – Monthly presentations of a rose, Rosary and Rosary ring to the mothers of infants being baptized are held at both Holy Family and Sacred Heart, Bath. Volunteers are always welcome to conduct or assist in conducting the presentations. To volunteer at Holy Family call Terry Dunne at 610-746-2676.

First Degree Team – Anyone interested in participating as a mock candidate or as an alternate member of the team is invited to attend any of the practices that are held on the third Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Wortman Center.

Basketball Free Throw Competition – The annual K of C Free Throw Competition will be held in early January at Holy family gym. The competition is open to all boys and girls ages 10-14. Details will be in the December newsletter or call coordinator Greg Schlegl at 610-759-3189.

Note: any time you spot an error, especially in name spelling or birth dates, please notify the Grand Knight. This might signify an error in official Supreme Council records and could possibly result in problems when trying to claim insurance benefits if not corrected.

Shining Armor Award – All new Brother Knights may qualify for the order’s Shining Armor Award. You qualify if, during your first year as a Knight, you are involved in at least 3 council service programs, attend at least 3 business meetings, receive the second and third degrees, meet with the insurance representative and recruit one new member.

Attendance drawing – The winning name drawn at the November meeting was Fr. Muller who donated his winnings back to the drawing. Thank you Father! (We can’t seem to give the money away. This is the second straight month that the winner donated the money back. Hmmm maybe the U.S. dollar is losing its value.) If you attend the January 2nd 2008 meeting you will have a chance to win the next attendance prize. You might even decide to keep it.

C.O.A.L. tickets – Tickets are still available and can be obtained from the rectory office or by calling PGK Bill Tanzosh at 610-759-3161. Proceeds from these tickets benefit not only our council but also the PA State Council’s seminarian support programs. Deadline for sales is December 1st and the drawings are on December 8th

Keep Christ in Christmas – Council is again selling the “Keep Christ in Christmas” magnets. Every Knight should support this promotion to keep Christ in Christmas. We see the commercial attempts to eliminate the reference to Christ during this season of His birth. Displaying this magnet on your car or in your home will serve as a visual reminder to all that “Christ is the reason for the season.” Magnets will be sold at all Masses or you can contact Former District Deputy Joe Inhoff at 610-759-3184.

Annual Christmas Party – The Council’s annual Christmas party will be held on Wednesday, December 5th in the parish social hall. The party will replace the regular monthly meeting and will start at 6:30 p.m. All Knights and their families are invited and encouraged to attend. To assure that there is adequate food, it is recommended that you call GK John Kelly at 610-217-2778 with the number of people you will be bringing. Santa will be making an appearance so bring a wrapped gift for any child you would like to have Santa visit. The annual Knight of the Year award will also be announced at the party. Let’s make this the best party yet. The more kids the merrier.

Entertainment Books – Our Council’s annual fundraiser sale of Entertainment books is now being conducted. Books are $20 and can be obtained by calling Grand Knight John Kelly at 610-217-2778. They make great Christmas gifts especially for the hard to shop for person.

Dues are due - Annual dues notices have been mailed to all members. To save on mailing reminders, please pay your dues promptly. Also, including a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your payment will save the Council the cost of postage when sending back your new traveling card.

Knights of Columbus Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM in Holy Family Parish’s Wortman Center. All members are encouraged to attend. After each meeting there is an opportunity for excellent refreshments and fellowship with your brother Knights. Plan to stop in and check it out next month. Also remember that, if conditions are such that you are unable to attend meetings, you can still aid the council by volunteering to participate in any of the various activities which the council conducts. We need you!
